About the Chateau

The first written mention of the village Ctěnice dates back to 1235. The first mention of the fortress dates back to 1372. Throughout its existence the chateau has changed owners and has been rebuilt many times. After the Second World War it was nationalized by presidential edict. Thereafter it was not maintained and deteriorated. In the 1980's the complex was threatened wih demolition due to its extensive devastation. The premises in Prague 9 - Vinoř were rescued when the City of Prague appointed Pražská informační služba (Prague Information Service) as the administrator of the chateau.

Over the following 13 years individual buildings and the park were subject to a careful, expensive and highly needed reconstruction. Half-dilapidated buildings of the chateau and the former estate were gradually reconstructed and new functions were assigned to them.

The former granary was reconstructed last and it can therefore now house accommodation and gastronomy facilities. The building was reconstructed in the years 2006-2008 with the kind financial support of the European Union, the Czech Republic and the Capital City of Prague.

Large stables and horses have always belonged to the chateau. They are now in the care of the Ctěnice Horseback Riding Company which offers horse riding courses at all levels of skill under the guidance of experienced trainers. The club also cooperates with hippotherapy providers.
